Petty idea for shaming adult non-maskers: a publicly accessible registry where you can look up any person who has had covid and see how many people they infected. Anything more than an r number of 1 is a problem. (Yes, I see the problems, please don’t explain them to me!)

If you infected anyone outside of the people you live with/let into your home, you didn’t mask properly.

@pixelsmixel With a well fitting quality mask worn by an asymptomatic carrier unaware of their infection, there is very little chance of infection from fleeting contact. Focusing on the 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 times transmission may occur isn’t conducive to my sentiment :p

@pixelsmixel Family is kind of an exception. Very very hard to prevent spread in your home or someone else’s. I don’t think guilt is effective, I think fines and mandates are. This sentiment may not help them, but it could help others.

@pixelsmixel Ok but you’ve moved the goalposts from fleeting contact (a few seconds) to what I assume is a slightly longer outside meeting. I am really sorry that happened to that person. I agree that fines won’t affect the rich, but for the 90% they could be/have been an effective deterrent.

@pixelsmixel It may sound absolute, but this is indeed twitter where I cannot list every possible caveat/exception with the character limit and still write a punchy tweet. Masking correctly & mandates & fines will save lives. Spreading to multiple people likely means you didn’t do it right.

I think most disagreements on this platform arise from the difference between the two camps of ‘generally correct’ and ‘exception/nuance’. We all switch camps all the time. Almost nothing is black or white, there’s so much grey but a longer word limit would make Twitter unusable

And that is why engagement can sometimes be so HIGH. Because folks in one camp will engage with tweets made by folks in the other camp. Very clever, Twitter. Very clever 2/2

Sometimes, Twitter is like that contrived debating team stuff you were forced to do in school. You know what’s generally the correct side, yet you must argue and rebut points that represent exceptions to the rule as a sort of academic exercise. Man, I hated debating.
